Palo Santo (Bursera Graveolens) or “holy stick” is a mystical tree that grows on the coast of South America, often used by Amazonian shamans in sacred plant medicine/spirit ceremonies that dates back to the Inca era. It is a natural wood aromatic incense was used for centuries by the Inca’s and Indigenous people of the Andes, as a spiritual remedy for purifying and cleansing, as well as to get rid of evil spirits and misfortune, as well as for medicinal purposes. The rising smoke of the lit sticks is believed to enter the energy field of ritual participants to clear misfortune, negative thoughts and to chase away evil spirits.

Palo Santo, is one of our favorite ways of purifying ones aura before a spiritual ceremony or just after a long day... Use a candle, match or lighter to ignite your stick of Palo Santo, and give it a little wave around your body, feel negativity instant break away. Some choose to leave a window or door cracked open while smudging, to let the smoke escape, taking all those negative thoughts and emotions that may be surrounding you, with it outside. Then shut the window to show you wish to keep it outside away from your personal/sacred space.
